ORGANIZERS
FCOC is the organizer of WMOC 2025 in Girona (Catalonia)
The Catalan Orienteering Federation (FCOC) was created on July 13, 1988, promoted by Carles Lladó i Badia, first president and introducer of the modality in our country, and Catalan orienteer with more participations and more medals in WMOC. In the same year, the first orienteering clubs in Catalonia were created: the COC (Club Orientació Catalunya de Barcelona, Montsant de Tarragona, and Minerva and NIE (currently inactive).
At state level, one year later, in 1989, the Spanish Association of Orienteering Clubs was founded -which includes the FCOC-, and in the same year it was recognized by the International Orienteering Federation as a full member. In 1993 the Spanish Superior Sports Council registered the Spanish Association of Orienteering Clubs with number 1 in the Register of Sports Associations. And on July 28th 2003, the Superior Sports Council approved the Constitution of the Spanish Orienteering Federation, being on August 10th when it was entered in the Register of the Superior Sports Council with no. 65.
During these 35 years, the Orienteering Races in Catalonia have grown little by little. The number of current clubs is 27 (see details in CLUBS) and we have close to 1000 licenses for athletes of all ages. Our Federation includes the disciplines of Foot Orienteering, MTBO, Trail-O, Ski-O, Rogaining and Adventure Races. Every season the Catalan Cup is organized for each sport and the different Catalan Championships too. International races such as the TIC Barcelona, the O’Cerdanya or the EuroCityRace are also held periodically, and the World Rogaining Championship 2019 was organized in La Molina.
In Spain there are nearly 5000 licenses distributed among 190 clubs throughout the territory. FEDO organizes each season the Spanish League of each modality and the corresponding Spanish Championships. And it has the experience of a previous WMOC (Murcia 1996), and other IOF competitions such as the MTBO World Cups (Zaragoza 1998 and Barcelona 1999) or the JWOC (Alicante 2002). Also with multiple annual international events recognized as World Ranking Event and with great prestige among elite runners such as the Costa Calida, Quijotes and Valencian Community trophies.
Together we will join efforts to offer all participants an experience as pleasant as possible. We want runners to fall in love with our land and our climate. And place our territory in your favourite place to make stays and competitions of our sport in the future. We will work with all the clubs and the two federations together to achieve this goal. We hope to achieve it!
