After deeply evaluating it with the technicians of the Montgrí Natural Park and those responsible for the Climate Action Area of the Generalitat of Catalonia, we have made the decision to change the location of one of the maps planned for the WMOC. The weather conditions are very different now than when we made the request and applied to organize this competition. And despite the recent rains, the continued drought situation that our territory is suffering from and the type of Mas Cremat forest – which has suffered some fires in recent summers – it was not advisable to hold a sports event in August and with a high volume of participants. The safety of all runners is our main motivation for having listened to the different recommendations and looking for a solution. This has been to put into practice Plan B that we had already planned with the International Orienteering Federation, and it has consisted of two steps. First, move the forest qualification to the Pals-Begur map, where we will keep the middle distance final. And second, move the long distance final to a new area located in the interior of Girona, in the municipalities of Rupit and Les Planes d’Hostoles. This change will allow us to present two very different types of forests and two very different areas of our territory, improving the offer to participants beyond guaranteeing their safety and the celebration of the event.
