Will be hosted in Girona from August 8th to 15th, 2025
Bulletin 1 for the World Masters Orienteering Championships, which are scheduled for August 8–15 in Girona and the Costa Brava, was released today. It is about a competition that will bring together thousands of competitors from around the world, divided into age groups ranging from 35 to 100 years. Federació de Curses d’Orientació de Catalunya (FCOC) is in charge of the organization.
The bulletin is divided into two sections: the first is an introduction to the basic issues of the area and includes information on where to stay, how to get there, and what concurrent events are scheduled. The second section of the bulletin focuses on more detailed and technical aspects of the competition, such as the anticipated schedule, the races that will be contested, technical details, or registration periods that will open on August 7th.
Both of the sprint races (qualification and final) will be held in Girona city. Forest qualification in Torroella de Montgrí and the finals (middle and long) in Pals. Model events in Banyoles and Besalú will also be offered, as well as a training map in the Greco-Roman ruins of Empúries.
With the publishing of this bulletin, the countdown to the World Masters Orienteering Championships has begun, which will feature FCOC as the organizer of large-scale contests under IOF (International Orienteering Federation) regulations. The event is supported by Federación Española de Orientación (FEDO), Girona’s Town Hall, Diputació de Girona, and Generalitat de Catalunya through the Secretaria de l’Esport i de l’Activitat Física and the town halls hosting the competitions.
